Over the spring semester faculty, staff and students undertook a number of visits to high schools around Terre Haute and some prospective students and their parents visited the college.
On March 15 and 17, the Fuqua Elementary and Honey Creek Middle School were visited to talk about attending college and pursuing careers in business. Grace Buswell, Junior studying Business Administration, facilitated an activity where the students learned about entrepreneurship and developed their own business plan. Some of their businesses included; dance studio, book store, shoe store, bicycle shop, and many more creative ideas!
On March 1, several prospective students and their families joined us on March 1, 2023, for a Scott College of Business Preview Day. Students heard from current business students Landrie Flack, Sean Garner, Jackson Krieg, Grace Buswell, and Megan Heck about their experiences along with advice for a successful transition to college. They took tours of Federal Hall and through ISU campus while also enjoying a lunch with business faculty/staff in the Sycamore Dining Hall.
Each student was divided into their interested areas of study where they learned from a current professor during their academic sessions while parents spoke with Dean Daugherty.
Before that, in mid-February, the Boulet Mentoring Program represented the Scott College of Business at local schools to talk about why business is fun!
The Scott College of Business and the Bayh College of Education are working together in support of the grant, titled The Explore, Engage, and Experience Grant (EEE) from the Indiana Department of Education. The goal of the grant is to implement career exploration activities at the elementary and middle school level. The Scott College of Business presented on entrepreneurship to 4th grade students at Farrington Grove Elementary and 8th grade students at Woodrow Wilson Middle School where they worked in teams to develop their own business. Students worked with four Scott College of Business Peer Mentors through the Boulet Mentoring Program (Brock Bolinger, Jackson Krieg, Grace Buswell, and Albin Ramadani) and their supervisor Madison Marshall to brainstorm and share their business plans to the group. After participating in this think tank activity they managed to snag a selfie out front of each school. We look forward to continuing these activities at Honey Creek Middle School and Fuqua Elementary!
